Welcome to FJOLTYNG

FJOLTYNG—Frantic Juggling Of Language To Yield New Generalizations—is a PLOVER-generating version of Jing Lu's Universal PETRARCH event data coder.

While Universal PETRARCH (U-PT) is a research platform, FJOLTYNG (FJ)—which has forked from U-PT—is designed for operational coding. The key differences between the two programs are [expected to be...]

Why FJOLTYNG?

According to Google Translate, “fjoltyng” is the Icelandic word for “multi-lingual.” Icelandic was chosen for this critical task because it has absolutely nothing to do with the project.

FJOLTYNG itself was selected because it can be easily pronounced, has only two syllables, produces essentially no matches in a Google search, and the .com and .org domains were available.

The final word in the acronym should be considered open to modification depending on your mood and the exact nature of your endeavors. We would suggest at least the following options:

Positive:
genius, gospel, gifts, glam, gnosis, goodness, goodwill, gravitas, growth, guidance

Neutral:
gadgets, gestalt, goods, granularity, groupings, gnu

Negative:
garbage, gaslighting, giggles, gloom, gobbledygook, goo, gore, gossip, grandiosity, grief, groupthink, grunge, guesses, guesswork, gunk

Depends on your perspective:
grants, gold, gravy

Might we further suggest that if things are not going at all well with your coding, failed, faulty, fraudulent, fruitless, funny, or futile can be substituted as the initial word. Plus another word beginning with “f”…
